Red-necked Phalarope Weston Sewage Works 23rd August 2008

This Red-necked Phalarope found in failing light on 23rd August. Initially I wasn't sure if it was Grey or Red-necked Phalarope but after checking photos it became clear that it was a Red-necked Phalarope. The mantle, eye stripe and bill pattern/colour confirming this. The next day the bird showed very obligingly on the near UV pool giving excellant photo opportunities. From closer inspection it was apparent that the bird was a moulting adult. The recent long staying Red-necked Phalarope at Saul Warth was also a moulting adult. It's difficult to say if it was the same bird as the Saul Warth individual was not photographed much due to its distance from any viewing area.
